less than an hour ago, the dramatic landing as nasa s orion spacecraft return from opening the moon. and it s pretty exciting. we have lindsey and lindsey reiser, back in the big board of this. we were so enjoying this one is going down about an hour ago. how did it go overall? were there any hiccups to the walk us through the big return to earth. i like, there is going to be post event press conference later today. so maybe we ll find out if there were any hiccups. as of right now, they are calling this textbook. let s go ahead and look at some of the live images right now the nafta is giving us. this really was the culmination of so many tests. testing the rocket system. the most powerful rocket system ever both so far. testing orion s heat shield. making sure that it could withstand 5000 degrees fahrenheit coming back into earth atmosphere. to give you an idea here of the flight path for a ryan, after leaving earth, around the clothes fly by of the moon. then flew disintereste
they re gonna do some visual inspections, and then they actually hook some cables onto it. the uss portland will actually pull out of the water, they bring it back to the navy base in san diego, and then back to the kennedy space center, where they do some more intensive tests. but big picture here, this is exactly what nasa needed in order to move forward with its artemis program. this was the uncrewed test flight and now they are going to be able to start thinking about who they re going to put on the crew of artemis two, which is going to be circling, orbiting the moon, so to speak. and then artemis 3 which is going to be when they are going to return american astronauts to the moon for the first time since the apollo program. some of the images that you re seeing there, that is of the orion spacecraft as it is making its to send through the earth atmosphere. this was, a gym, one of the most critical tests today, testing that heat shield,
the capsule did a roll, like 180-degree role as it was entering earth s atmosphere, lindsey? the angle in which it was hurdling down to earth, it had to roll over to get to earth atmosphere. yeah, there were two positions that iran could land. it landed in position one, which is upright as they say. it also could have done top down. that would have been position number two. but also before orion jim hurling downturn, it had to separate from the european space module. so orion just entered completely on his own. so we re waiting on board for that fifth bag deployment, it sounds like. do you know how long it will take for boats, what they ve approximated to get to the capsule? i mean, you said is gonna be a few hours. this is message control, houston, once again the orion spacecraft have been completed of 1.4 million miles. wow! we bobbing gently in the
