Researcher in Azores wins National Geographic scholarship
Marine biologist Miriam Cuesta has been awarded with an Early Career Grant from the National Geographic Society, in a project that will study, for a year, the nocturnal behaviour of the young cagarros (Scopoli’s shearwater) in Faial, Azores
The 32-year-old Spanish researcher, resident in Horta, Faial island, since 2016, will film with infrared video cameras the excursions of the hatchlings of cagarros during the months before the definitive exit of the nests, according to a press release issued by the University of the Azores. The project begins on 15 May and the fieldwork will take place from July to November, when the chicks are in the nests, the note adds.
