Veterans memorial finds home in Carrollton

CARROLLTON A veterans’ memorial planned in Carrollton will make its home on the Greene County Courthouse lawn.
After the original site in Rainy Park fell through, Bernie Faul and other members of the memorial committee began looking for other options that would keep the proposed memorial in the public’s view.
“We want it where people will see it,” Faul said.
City officials vetoed the Rainy Park site after residents voiced opposition over concerns that the construction of additional parking would increase flooding in the area.
“They were going to give me the water tower, but it’s off the beaten path,” Faul said. “Even if we were to put a sign that says ‘Memorial this way,’ we don’t know if people would go out of their way to see it.”
