RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - After more than a year of study and analysis, Rutherford County Schools has developed concepts for county-wide rezoning that would likely begin in August 2025.
The school district is hosting three parent input sessions at schools next week to gather important feedback.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN – A Tennessee Special Session is underway in Nashville this week, with an underlying focus on school safety. Governor Bill Lee requested the Special Session shortly after the Nashville area Covenant School shooting, which took place in late March.
The school safety bill that was signed into law this past May, requires schools built or remodeled after July 1, 2023, to have bulletproof windows and doors. Currently, Rutherford County is looking into the idea of reinforc .
The number of teachers retiring, some even retiring early, continues to plague school districts throughout the state of Tennessee. That was JC Bowman, Executive Director of the Professional Educators of Tennessee. The problem is compounded in growing communities like Rutherford County where schools need to fill positions left open by retiring educators, while also planning ahead to hire new teachers at schools that will soon be built.

Rutherford County, TN - Just before the Rutherford County Schools closed for spring break, schools across the county practiced a variety of school safety drills. Barfield Elementary School children were among students at 50 county schools to participate in the school safety exercises.
The drills were planned by the Sheriff’s School Resource Officers for administrators, faculty and students. SRO Capt. Brad Harrison said the drill consisted of a lockdown practice.
