Worcester zoning board to hear sobriety house application

UPPER GWYNEDD — A hearing for a project just across the street could attract attention from Upper Gwynedd residents. Township planning and zoning officer E. Van Rieker gave a heads-up Monday night on an upcoming hearing in Worcester Township that residents and officials may want to watch. The request is before their zoning hearing board, to permit a group home of apparently, from four to six individuals — to be detailed at their hearing — to be used as a sober house, Rieker said. - Advertisement - According to Rieker and meeting materials and a public notice posted by Worcester Township, the Worcester zoning hearing board will meet on April 27 to hear several applications, including one from the owners of 2816 Morris Road. That property contains an 18th century farmhouse with two outbuildings including a detached garage, with three floors, seven bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms, according to the zoning board application. 

Upper Gwynedd recap: Police canines in training

UPPER GWYNEDD — The two newest members of the Upper Gwynedd Police Department are currently in training, but already online.  Police Officer Matt Toro recently gave the board a preview of the department s next two officers, both of the four-legged variety. There are many different ways to get a police dog. It wasn t as simple as just going to one vendor, Toro said. - Advertisement - Late in 2019 the department decided to proceed with establishing a police canine unit, Toro said, and he and fellow officer Ed Tartar have done extensive research since then on where and how to find their future partners. Their selection was the University of Pennsylvania s PennVet Center, Toro told the board, and he and Tartar have chosen two dogs, a Belgian Malinois named Fury and a Dutch Shephard named Gunner, who are currently being trained for bomb and drug detection.

Upper Gwynedd: Office conversion, incubator plans in works

UPPER GWYNEDD — A pair of land development projects are moving through the approval process in Upper Gwynedd, and could require formal board actions soon. Township planning and zoning officer E. Van Rieker gave updates recently on two projects headed to township review boards for formal approvals. On the northwest corner of Broad Street and Allentown Road, Rieker told the commissioners, the owner of an office building that looks like a house - it was built to resemble a dwelling, has asked to change the use of one of the two floors inside, on a property that s zoned residential but currently used as offices.
