The Central government is working to roll out e-Passports to make easier international travel and enable protection against identity theft and greater data security, the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday.
Although authorities have installed electronic immigration gates or e-gates at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), the system still does not have all the planned functions.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Thursday said that the government is planning to issue e-passports to its citizens, starting in 2022-23.
External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Friday cleared misgiving on the use of recently announced e-passport, stating that it will contain multiple layered security as the data will be on paper like regular passports.
