Many San Franciscans’ relationships with dogs changed dramatically in the past year. New owners joined the pandemic-related puppy adoption frenzy, remote workers spent more time with their pets and a lack of general socialization gave a much more literal meaning to “man’s best friend.” But no matter where you fall on the canine-appreciating spectrum, the new documentary “We Don’t Deserve Dogs” will likely show a side of dog ownership you haven’t seen.
Currently for purchase on sites like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV for $4.99, this is the second documentary from a pair of self-funded filmmakers whose 2017 debut “Barbecue” explored the world’s relationship with meat. “We Don’t Deserve Dogs” takes a similar global look at pet owners living everywhere from Scotland to Uganda, including a segment on the complicated issue of raising dogs for meat in Vietnam.
