MOORHEAD A Moorhead man who acknowledged killing and dismembering his roommate last year is expected to be sentenced to more than 30 years in prison next month.
Ethan Martin Broad, 27, pleaded guilty Friday, Jan. 8, in Clay County District Court to a second-degree felony of murder, which states he intentionally killed 19-year-old Dystynee Avery on April 3 at their 1310 28th Ave. S. apartment in Moorhead. A second murder charge that alleged he killed Avery without intent will be dismissed after he is sentenced on Feb. 18.

MOORHEAD (KFGO) – A Moorhead man will spend about 30 years in prison for the stabbing death of a friend last April.
27-year-old Ethan Broad has pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder in the death of 19-year-old Dystynee Avery, who was living with Broad in his south Moorhead apartment. Broad admitted to hitting Avery on the head with a pipe during an argument, stabbing the woman and slashing her throat. He then dismembered her body in his garage and placed the remains in a dumpster.
Avery’s remains were later found in the Clay County landfill. Broad will be sentenced in February.
