ICON 4×4 built this 1968 Ford Bronco six years ago at their company in California. It is powered by a 5.0 L Coyote V8 paired with a Aisin-Warner five-speed manual transmission. Behind that is a Atlas II two-speed transfer.
Icon has just completed work on its latest project, comprehensively restoring and modifying a 1972 FJ44 Toyota Land Cruiser.
When this Land Cruiser entered Icon’s California workshop, it had no less than 780,000 miles on the clock and was in dire need of some TLC. Icon has left no stone unturned in overhauling the vehicle and making it run like new.
For starters, Icon ditched the standard engine and replaced it with a 6.2-liter GM V8 with fuel injection and 430 hp and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque. This engine is mated to an Aisin Warner AX15 five-speed manual transmission. They also overhauled the Toyota’s chassis, suspension, and drivetrain, fitting a Dynatrac Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear axle, as well as a Fox Racing coilover suspension.

Los Angeles-based four-wheel drive expert Icon has now crafted a special “Old School Edition” of its rugged FJ44.
Using a 1972 Land Cruiser as its basis, the new edition gives the off-roader a massive power upgrade, now carrying a 6.2-liter V8 from GM that can push out a whopping 430 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque via an Alsin Warner AX15 five-speed manual transmission and Atlas II two-speed transfer case. The company also couples Dynatrac Dana 60 rear and front axles with a Fox Racing coil-over suspension, sitting above hydroboost-assisted Brembo Sport brakes, the company’s own forged aluminum wheels, and all-terrain tires from BF Goodrich.

In keeping with the FJ 44 s original time period, transferring the drive to the Dynatrac Dana front and rear axles is an Aisin Warner AX15 five-speed manual transmission. An Atlas II two-speed transfer case is also installed, as well as Fox Racing coilover sport suspension. Completing its newfound modern ability as an off-road beast, the Old School Edition FJ44 is shod with BF Goodrich all-terrain 285/65/18 tires mounted on Icon s forged aluminum vintage-inspired wheels.
