Is the bell finally tolling for Temarrick Hemingway

At the press conference after today’s rookie minicamp, Ron Rivera was asked a variety of questions. One particular question that was asked, and that he responded to, and which hasn’t received much coverage was:
Ron, you’ve talked a lot about competition in training camp and offseason workouts as well as having so much more depth. Which group stands out to you as one where you guys really made an effort to address, if you feel you were able to do that, and one you are looking forward to watching once everybody gets out here.
Washington Roster Moves: Marcus Baugh released after 3 TEs added in a month
Bye Marcus

Marcus Baugh was added to Washington’s roster last March after spending a year on the Carolina Panthers injured reserve. He made the roster, but was released in October, signed to the practice squad, and then re-signed to the 53-man roster in December. Baugh was one of 4 TEs to play last year, and had the 3rd-most snaps on offense.
Washington needed an upgrade at TE this year, with only Logan Thomas producing last season. Jeremy Sprinkle left in free agency and signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Now Marcus Baugh has been released. Temarrick Hemingway is the only TE besides Thomas who played a snap on offense last year.
Deon Yelder is a sneaky solid addition to the TE room

Earlier this week, Ron Rivera told us he was going to be adding some veteran free agents to Washington’s roster, and he’s spared no time in doing so. On Wednesday, the team added an extra cornerback and tight end to the competitive mix for this offseason.

A number of folks have written these two off, and others stopping by for team visits, as “camp bodies,” just a bunch of JAGs to fill out the 90-man roster. But, as one looks a little more closely, an interesting pattern develops. Most of the players discussed probably aren’t competing for starting positions at this point, but several of them - including Deon Yelder, who will be the subject of this piece - very much appear to be legitimately in the running to serve as depth upgrades.
Dolphins, DeVante and the Bama Fascination
The Miami Dolphins have been connected to University of Alabama prospects since the start of the so-called draft season

The 2021 NFL draft arrives and picture this for the Miami Dolphins: wide receiver DeVonta Smith comes to Miami as the sixth overall pick, and he s followed at number 18 by running back Najee Harris.
For good measure, let s throw in one more and have the Dolphins trade a future pick to move back to the top and add wide receiver Jaylen Waddle also.
There you have it.
The whole gang reunited, Tua Tagovailoa s University of Alabama offensive teammates back to work their magic again in the NFL.
Thomas concluded his breakout campaign with 72 receptions for 670 yards and six touchdowns, all of which were top 10 among NFL tight ends. He was a security blanket for whoever played quarterback, a willing blocker and a valued veteran presence on a young team. And having completed just his fourth full season at the position, he knows there s plenty of room for growth. There are definitely a couple things that I really want to work on this offseason, Thomas said. There are one or two things in the pass game that I think will help me and help the team in the long run. And then in the run game, I think there s always room for improvement there, and a lot of it comes from understanding.
