Looser regulatory restrictions around special purpose acquisition companies (Spacs) could have a “significant impact” on the UK financial advice market as investors look for alternative routes to tap into rampant consolidation in the space.
A Spac is a corporation formed for the sole purpose of raising investment capital through an initial public offering (IPO). When the Spac raises the required funds through an IPO, the money is held in a trust until the desired acquisition is made.

It aims to double in size and complete up to four deals within the next 12 months
Birmingham-based IFA consolidator Elevation Financial Group (EFG) has completed a debt raise to fund an “extensive acquisition programme”.
The total sum of the debt raise was not disclosed.
Tony Smith, group managing director at EFG, said: “This is a hugely exciting moment for EFG.
“The debt raise will allow us to acquire up to four businesses in 2021 and roughly double our size within a short period of time.”
