Olivia Martzke of Buena Vista was named the High School Youth of the Year by the Chaffee County Boys & Girls Club.
Martzke was named alongside Youth of the Year Kuper Banghart of Salida and Middle School Youth of the Year Aberlyn Leon in April. The annual recognition program is now in its 16th year.
âOlivia was awarded the High School Youth of the Year Award at Boys & Girls Club because she makes everyone at the club see the best version of themselves,â said BGC director Brian Beaulieu.
âShe is a Spark Fitness coach to dozens of kids, and her ability to relate to all youth, from elementary kids to teenagers makes her a leader every day,â he said. âShe is kind, helpful and an inspiration to our members and staff. This was one of the most challenging years for everyone, but kids helping kids made it one of our best!â

Barbara Ann Patton left her earthly body on February 1, 2021 as she passed in her sleep and into the peaceful, loving embrace of her Heavenly Father. She was 71.
Barbara was born on December 31, 1949, as the last baby born in 1949 in Sweetwater, Texas. She was the oldest of four and had three younger brothers, who she spent her childhood years with, in Odessa, Texas. She truly adored her brothers and felt like a second mother to them in those years. and loved them all with an eternal love that supersedes this life.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, whom she dearly loved on her mother s side, Nona Lee Earp of Oklahoma, her mother, Betty Jane Patton McCabe of Ruidoso, NM, and James Jim Kenneth Patton of Odessa. Also, her beloved nephew, JD Patton, of Amarillo.
Dean s, President s Lists Students Named for UA Fall 2020 Term
A total of 13,128 students enrolled during the fall 2020 term at The University of Alabama made the Dean s List with academic records of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), or the President s List with academic records of 4.0 (all A s). The UA Dean s and President s Lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.
Faye Cox, of Deerfield, was named to the Dean s List.
Christina Jolly, of Deerfield, was named to the Dean s List.
Mary Jolly, of Deerfield, was named to the President s List.
TCU transfer Ben Wilson commits to Washington State
The Horned Frog linebacker entered the transfer portal recently and will return to his home state to continue his career.

Former Horned Frog linebacker Ben Wilson entered the transfer portal only recently, but the talented defender has already found a new team. Wilson will return to his home state and play for the Washington State Cougars next season.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker from Sumner High School in Washington emerged as a four-star prospect at the prep level before signing with TCU in 2017. Wilson totaled 34 tackles, including 23 solo tackles, in 29 games across three seasons with the Horned Frogs. Wilson also recovered one fumble and recorded two blocks for TCU.
