Our local Small Businesses contribute billions of dollars to our economy every year. But we have not often been focused on how our citys contracting dollars which also constitute billions of dollars every year can be used to support our local and Small Businesses. Three decades ago this board of supervisors recognized that local governments passive and sometimes active practice of discrimination no longer had a place in our city and that millions of dollars that our city spends for goods and services could be a powerful tool to invest in helping disadvantaged minority and women owned businesses enter the economic mainstream.
