woods in kabul but president obama invited president karzai to the white house. as tom fitzgerald reports, both men tried hard to down play their differences. reporter: afghan president hamid karzai arriving through the white house gates with a goal to mend fences. the president of the united states accompanied by the president of the islamic republic of afghanistan. in a move to boost karzai s standing, president obama stood next to him. with respect to perceived tensions between the u.s. and the afghan government, a lot of them were simply overstated. the bottom line is that we are much more strongly related to each other today than we ever were before. reporter: that s a big change in tone from recent months which u.s. officials called karzai s government corrupt and karzai was reported as saying he may join the taliban. afghans and americans are making enormous sacrifices. we have had very frank discussions. i believe what you saw in the past few months is r
