Unsure about a possible suspect in the incident. Des Moines Police tell us they interviewed the victim identified as Dustin Curtis while he was being treated at iowa methodist. Curtis told police that he heard a small pop while getting cigarettes from his car. He said he later discovered a small wound to his stomach and was taken to the emergency room. However, police say there are inconsistencies in curtis story as well as that of a witness. Right now they are trying to , determine if the wound may have somehow been self inflicted perhaps by accident. , curtis under went surgery. His condition is not known at this time. Michael amodeo and jessy foley were nowhere to be found saturday night during a routine check. The two are now the second and third inmates to escape the confines of newtons facility in just one month. 28yearold edward shorter attempted the same thing when he walked away from the facility. He was captured a day later in des moines. Now the department of corrections says it cant say for sure whether most people, if they make this choice, they dont want to get caught, so a lot of times they try to stay hidden as much as they can so its a real difficult question to answer as far as if theres any Public Safety or not. both men were serving sentences on drug charges.
