Takapuna landmark, the
Bruce Mason Centre, celebrates 25 years as
the heart of the North Shore’s performing arts community
this August.
Auckland Live invites the city to
celebrate the tens of thousands of performances that have
taken place at the Centre over the last quarter century with
a special programme including free performances and
family-friendly events for the local community, culminating
in a weekend of free circus and dance.
The Bruce Mason
Centre first opened its doors in 1996 in a hard-won victory
for the North Shore’s arts community. The opening was the

The Bruce Mason Centre first opened its doors in 1996 in a hard-won victory for the North Shore’s arts community. The opening was the culmination of twelve years of determined effort by the founding trust. Led by theatre stalwart Angela Antony, the group of passionate arts advocates first floated the idea of a home for the performing arts in Takapuna in 1984. Following more than a decade of fundraising, battling bureaucracy, and standing their ground in the face of threats to construct a carpark on the site, the

With nearly 40 events spread across four
days and nights, New Plymouth will generate a buzz around
Taranaki and further afield this winter as the region lives
up to its reputation as a festival province like no other
between 29 July and 1 August.
The collaboration
between the Right Royal Cabaret Fest and Festival of Words
will see New Zealand s leading cabaret artists, comedians,
authors and acclaimed guest speakers to perform at venues
throughout the district, including TSB Showplace, NPDC s
Puke Ariki Museum and Library, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery,
