The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate elections launched in Khartoum on Saturday morning were successfully concluded. The election committee announced that Abdelmonim Abu Idris, who works for Agence France-Presse (AFP), was democratically chosen as the Syndicate’s new chair.
Following the June 30 anti-junta Marches of the Millions that witnessed a huge turnout in more than 40 Sudanese cities and towns, activists in greater Khartoum set up a number of sit-ins, calling for democracy and the overthrow of the military junta. Wad Madani in El Gezira will follow on Tuesday. The Forces for Freedom and Change denied that they entered negotiations with the military.
Sudan’s tenacious street protesters and other supporters of the social movement have continued to take to the streets and find ways to express their resistance to the country’s October 2021 military coup.
