Chief Olusegun Matthew Okikiola Ogunboye Aremu Obasanjo, GCFR, a Nigerian political and military leader who served as Nigeria's head of state from 1976 to 1979 and later as its president from 1999 to 2007. He was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from 1999 up until recently. On April 3, 2012, former President Olusegun Obasanjo resigned his position as chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying the move would enable him fulfill his duties as a statesman locally and internationally. It was supposed to be his retirement from partisanship.
