THE rain and bad weather over the last few days will not be as bad as the floods in October 1960, so we decided to take a look back at this spell of disastrous weather. IT was 7.45am on Thursday, October 27, 1960, and the landlord of the Black Horse, in Bridge Street, Taunton, had just started his daily clean-up. Mr T. Daw shrugged his shoulders as the rain which had fallen continuously for a day was still coming down outside. He collected a handful of sticky beer mugs from a table and turned to put them on the bar when he suddenly noticed something unusual – water was seeping under the door.
