NHS chiefs have insisted they are still weighing options for the future of a hospital in County Durham. The ageing Shotley Bridge Hospital facility has been earmarked for a multi-million pound overhaul, with bosses considering whether to refurbish the current site or relocate. But after concerns were raised about the process, bosses have attempted to reassure the public and patients they have not already made up their minds, while also warning a final scheme must be more than just a ‘sticking plaster’ for existing issues. “No decision has been made at this stage,” said Rachel Rooney, commissioning and development manager at County Durham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

A multi-million pound overhaul of a County Durham hospital will not threaten services elsewhere in the county, NHS bosses have promised.
A NEW mass vaccination centre could be ready to open in County Durham as early as next week. Health bosses for the region have previously raised the prospect of a site in the county to complement facilities currently up and running in Washington and Newcastle. And if a deal can be agreed on a new venue, it is hoped it could be ready to start dishing out jabs as early as Monday (February 15). “[We] put forward seven sites to the regional organisation as potential vaccination centres in County Durham,” said Michael Laing, director of integrated community services at the County Durham Care Partnership (CDPC).
