TRIBUTES have been paid to a hugely-respected Dunfermline photographer and title-winning rally driver who died this week. Johnstone Syer, 87, took the portraits and wedding photos of thousands of West Fifers over the decades but he was also well-known for being one of Britain s top rally competitors. He had been getting treatment for prostate cancer but, in December, he was told he had developed pancreatic cancer and died just seven weeks later on Monday. Johnstone started competing in rallying in 1956 after joining Dunfermline Car Club. By 1966 he had three photograph studios open but this did not hinder his passion for rallying and it even got to the stage where he was travelling so much he required two passports!
