The chief executive of a Dumbarton-based alcohol charity says she’s worried that people will turn to drink over Christmas and New Year in an attempt to forget the extreme stresses 2020 has put on everyone. Mags Mackenzie and her colleagues at Dumbarton Area Council on Alcohol (DACA) are urging people in the area who expect to drink more than usual over the festive season to put a plan in place to reduce risks to themselves and loved ones. DACA’s team are also worried that as people are allowed to meet family and friends, perhaps for the first time in months, excessive drinking over the festive season will exacerbate the already higher risk of spreading Covid-19.
