Grants awarded and new board member. Written By: News Tribune | × The Northland Foundation is pleased to announce that seven grants were awarded in January by the young people and adult mentors on the 2020-21 KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Board. The Board is made up of middle school and high school students from across northeastern Minnesota who review and make grantmaking decisions with guidance from volunteer adult mentors. The grants the students award, up to $1000 each, support school and community projects that are planned and developed by children and youth in northeastern Minnesota. The KIDS PLUS Youth In Philanthropy Program receives funding support from the Scott and Holly Martin Family Foundation, members of the Northland Foundation s Emeritus Trustee Group, and the Northland Foundation. In Minnesota, only 169 students scored a 36 of the 56,705 students who took the ACT. 9:00 am, Jan. 6, 2021 × Phoenix Ocean, a senior at Denfeld High School, spent the last year as the Denfeld student rep on the Duluth School Board. Ocean used her position to be vocal about student needs. Phoenix took the ACT in October and received a 36, the highest possible score, not expecting it at all after distance learning since March. Ocean, a Duluth Denfeld High School senior, was scheduled to take the test last spring but her test was canceled due to the pandemic.

Duluth School Dist Plans For Full Elementary In-Person Learning By Feb 8

Duluth School Dist. Plans For Full Elementary In-Person Learning By Feb. 8 December 20, 2020 The Duluth School Board will discuss those plans at their committee of the whole meeting Monday night. The plans include full in-person learning for kindergarten through second grade to begin Monday, Jan. 25. Grades three through five will go full in-person learning Monday, Feb. 8. The district says this decision was made at the guidance of Gov. Walz who announced last week the prioritizing of in-person learning for elementary students. The district released the following information Monday as a press release: There will be an informational item on the Monday December 21 Committee of the Whole Duluth School Board meeting related to Governor Walz’s announcement on Thursday prioritizing in-person learning for elementary students.
