rescued anglers head back to shore (CBS-3)
DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – A group of over 25 anglers who were ice fishing on Lake Superior Tuesday had to be rescued as the sheet of ice they were on broke away from the shore.
Personnel from the Duluth Fire and Police Departments, St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Coast Guard used a variety of watercraft to pick up the stranded people and bring them back to shore safely.
No injuries were reported.
As the ice sheet broke free, strong winds were pushing it further into the lake.
The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department reminds the public that no ice is completely safe especially with the rapidly changing conditions on Lake Superior.
The Duluth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2112 West Superior Street, the home of Robert's Home Furniture, Prudential, and Simply Amish Wooden Furniture.

DULUTH, Minn. – For 20 years, Jon Otis has risen the ranks of the fire department and now is officially the deputy chief.
Like many kids, Jon played with firetrucks but he didn’t exactly have the desire to be part of the fire department until a college assignment, where he had to write a paper about something he wanted to learn more about.
At the time, he had a roommate who was a wild land firefighter and another roommate who was going to Lake Superior College to be a structural firefighter, leading him to write about and end up pursuing a career in Duluth’s Fire Department.

December 30, 2020
In the video are pictures taken by the city earlier today at the Duluth Fire Department.
40 firefighters got their COVID shots today. Another 80 are expected to get theirs next week.
Today, Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj was one of the first to get the shot. He tells us it’s a relief to finally get vaccinated so he and his team can be as healthy as possible to continue to respond to emergencies through the pandemic.
“I’m really excited about it,” he said. “Our department’s excited. We’ve worked with St. Louis County health for the last couple weeks in preparation for this. Not quite sure exactly when it would become available for to us and we found out last week that it was going to be available starting this week.”
