Duluth steam customers convert to hot-water heat A revamped plant operates more efficiently via a new distribution system, conserving energy and money for its downtown customers. This boiler has been converted to use natural gas as a fuel. Two of the boilers at the plant can run on either natural gas or coal. (Clint Austin / caustin@duluthnews.com) The decision to convert from steam to hot-water heat was an easy one for Steve LaFlamme, president and CEO of Oneida Real Estate Services. In all, LaFlamme has chosen to replace steam with hot-water heating systems in four of the downtown Duluth buildings his firm owns or manages: the Northland Building, the Stanley Center, the Beal Building and the Wells Fargo Center.
