New housing proposal at the site of Duluth Central High School

There's a New Housing Proposal to build 1,300 housing units at the site where Duluth Central High School once stood, called Incline Village.

Paulette C Franckowiak

Paulette C. Franckowiak, 77 of Duluth died Monday, Dec. 4th in her home with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 16, 1946 in Duluth to William and Lois Jakubek and she graduated from Duluth Central High School. Paulette met Ted Franckowiak and they were married on April 6, 1968. She worked for many years as a Hair Stylist, but she loved her job as a mother and grandmother more than anything. Paulette as an active member in St. Joseph’s Church in Gnesen, serving on its funeral lunch committee and she was a member of its Lady’s Guild. She volunteered at St. Mary’s NICU, rocking the babies; she enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, flower gardening, snowmobiling, spending time at the shack, camping and traveling.

Charles Anthony Perushek

Charles Anthony Perushek, of Lakewood Township Duluth MN was born January 17, 1942. He was a graduate of Duluth Central High School. Chuck was an employee of Fitger’s Brewery, Diamond Tool, and Moline Machinery. He is survived by his brother Ludwig and sister Mary Ann, both of Duluth, and several nieces and nephews. Chuck was a kind hearted, humble, sweet man. He will be remembered for his unique humor and anecdotes. Memorial service at Dougherty Funeral Home on Friday Oct 13 at 11:00AM.

Peter LaTour

Peter Dale “Pete” LaTour, 88, of Duluth, Minnesota, passed away on August 12, 2023. Pete was born on June 22, 1935, in Duluth, Minnesota. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Judy, for 63 years and missed her every day after her passing four years ago in November. Pete and Judy enjoyed attending church functions, family gatherings, and other social occasions together.

Arlene Rae Berg

Arlene Rae Berg (Doyle) passed away with her family by her side on August 4th, 2023. Arlene was born on February 28th, 1938, to Harriette (Simonson) and Gene Doyle. She grew up in Duluth and graduated from Duluth Central High School. She was employed with General Adjustment, ISD 709, many years at Paine Webber, and finished at Louisianna Pacific. In her youth, she spent many days at the Curling Club roller skating and participated in the local Ice Follies. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. For many years, she was on a trophy winning bowling team. She married the love of her life, Reginald D. Berg. Residing in Duluth, they raised their 2 cherished children. They enjoyed vacationing in Grand Rapids, MN, Las Vegas, and Florida together. Arlene was a wonderful cook and baker; from pie crust to Christmas cookies, she was the best.
