The city of Duluth recently announced that Lester Park Golf Course would close for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, reopen for the 2023 season while Enger Park Golf Course undergoes renovations, and then close for good after 2023.
With all due respect, there is a better solution: Start a Duluth public golf co-op.
A local example of this is the Hayward Golf Club, which is run by and owned by the Hayward Civic Club, a nonprofit. It appears to be a very well-run golf course and to make enough money to pay for capital improvements.

Because the coronavirus pandemic has limited how people can recreate, the city of Duluth has noticed more people returning to outdoor winter recreation activities, such ice skating, skiing and snowshoeing. We’re getting lots of inquiries on them as well, said Jess Peterson, manager of the city s Parks and Recreation Department.
This winter the city is offering a few new outdoor recreation opportunities. On Friday, the city closed a section of Lincoln Park Drive to traffic so it can be used exclusively for recreation. The road is closed between 10th and 6th streets and will remain that way until May.
