Three people, including a sheriff s deputy, were shot Saturday at Dulles Crossing Plaza in Sterling by a man who took off in a stolen vehicle before he was apprehended in Chantilly, deputies said.
All three victims suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to Loudoun County Sheriff s Office spokesman Kraig Troxell.
Sheriff Mike Chapman explained at a news conference that at around 5 p.m., a man was being taken into a Walmart security office by two security guards on suspicion of felony theft.
He pulled out a gun and began shooting when deputies arrived to take him into custody, Chapman said. Both security guards and one of the deputies were shot.
