I’m sitting in the front seat of our taxi with Luis, the driver, who has just been explaining to me how Raul Castro’s daughter Mariela is in favour of “homofobia.” I endeavour to correct him: “Don’t you mean she’s against homophobia?” but he, bent on re-educating an unenlightened foreigner, insists “no, in favour of.” Luis, who has the conversational tic of poking me whenever he wants to make a point, is pro-Fidel (“he wants to help the poor”), but “homofobia” is a long word and, for a generation raised on Marxist polysyllables, easy enough to confuse with its antonym. “In favour of homophobia.” Fist in my thigh, and his eyes meet mine, as he scrutinizes my face for moral outrage. Being on stage together again was a surreal experience for Christopher von Uckermann, Maite Perroni, Anahí, and Christian Chávez, who spoke to People en Español exclusively about the RBD reunion and Ser O Parecer virtual concert for fans. During the livestream on December 26, the four members of the popular Mexican band which also included Alfonso Herrera and Dulce María, who were not part of the reunion sang their greatest hits and reconnected with fans worldwide. RBD is back! It s been 12 years since the Mexican pop band had their last concert, and on Saturday four of the original six members reunited for a virtual show. Christian Chávez, Anahí, Christopher von Uckermann and Maite Perroni made fans nostalgic with their mega-hits, which fans haven t heard live for over a decade.
News of their reunion was announced in October, to celebrate the 16th anniversary of their telenovela
Rebelde. At the time, it was also revealed that Alfonso Herrera and Dulce María would not be participating.
The almost two-hour virtual concert consisted of fan-favorite songs like Ser o Parecer, Solo Quédate En Silencio, Bésame Sin Miedo, Enséñame, Aún Hay Algo, Este Corazón, Tras de Mí and Nuestro Amor, among many others. They also sang their new song, “Siempre He Estado Aquí, which was released last month.
