It is one of only nine new Queensland proposals added to the priority list since February 2019.
The purpose of the Infrastructure Australia document is to provide a âcredible pipeline of nationally significant proposals for governments at all levels to choose fromâ.
It also gives evidence-based advice to support an âinformed national conversation about
Australiaâs spending prioritiesâ.
The first 2.6km of the Walkerston Bypass has already been built as part of the Mackay Ring Road, which officially opened in September.
The rest of the bypass is expected to support another 200 local jobs, with the tender award to occur in March next year and construction expected to start soon after.
