Volleyball Gears Up for Key ACC Matchups

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State volleyball team will continue their ACC season with two key matchups at home this week. The Seminoles will face rival Miami on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network before taking on Duke Friday night at 6:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Admission to all home matches is free and the doors to Tully Gym will open one hour before first serve. With ACC play full underway, the Seminoles sit at 2-2 and tied for sixth in the conference standings. The NCAA released the first RPI of the season, and the Seminoles came in at 42. A couple of wins this weekend would help the Seminoles both on the conference and national stage. Miami comes into the match tied with the Seminoles for sixth in the ACC standings and ranked 46th in the RPI. Duke is ranked 60th in the RPI. ⚾: Messick Named ACC Pitcher of the Week for Second Time in 2022

TALLAHASSEE – For the second time this year, redshirt sophomore Parker Messick is the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week. The left-hander struck out a career-high 14 batters in FSU’s 4-0 win over Duke Friday night. Messick, from Plant City, Florida, ranks second nationally with 65 strikeouts in 38.0 innings pitched. He struck out the side in the third and sixth innings against the Blue Devils and has started both of FSU’s shutout victories this season. Ross Dunn, FSU’s Sunday starter, is the only other player in the conference with a 14-strikeout game this year. Messick improved to 4-1 with the win and lowered his season ERA to 2.84. Messick was named Pitcher of the Week earlier this season for his 13-strikeout, no walk game against Samford. He is the reigning ACC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year.
