Robert H. Gilbert, age 74, of Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, at his home. He was born Wednesday, April 17, 1946, in Gettysburg, the son of the late John R. and Janice M. (Raffensperger) Gilbert.
Bob graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1964. He attended DeVry Technical institute in Ohio. He was formerly employed by Valley Quarries in Gettysburg for over 35 years.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg.
He was involved with the Boy Scouts of American for over 50 years, having served as cubmaster, scoutmaster, committee chairman, district commissioner and received many scouting awards. He was a founding leader of Scout Troop 1863 of Trinity United Church of Christ in Gettysburg. He assisted his two grandsons with their Eagle Scout Rank. He also belonged to the Moose of Gettysburg.
Donald âDonâ Edward Mays, 78, left this world suddenly Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 at his home in Biglerville. Heavenâs gates opened wide as he went into the arms of our Lord and Savior. He now joins his wife, Arlene, who passed May, 3 2012. They shared 43 years of marriage. Leaving behind their daughter, Pamela Shaffer and companion, Rick Rex of Biglerville; granddaughter, Megan Shaffer of York Springs and grandson, Jaydon Shaffer of Biglerville.
Don was born May 15, 1942 in Hanover,; he was the oldest son of the late Wilbur Edward and Madeline Marie (Staub) Mays.
In addition to his parents and wife, Don is preceded in death by his loving brother, Bob; sister-in-law, Gail and nephew, Donnie Mays. Surviving are his three sisters, Susan and husband Stanley Starry of York Springs, Linda and husband Keith Biesecker of Orrtanna and Sharon and husband Ed Riley of Orrtanna. Patricia H. Kluck, age 88, formerly of North Main Street, Biglerville, passed away peacefully in her residence at Country Meadows, Mechanicsburg, on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, following an extended illness. She was born Friday, Feb. 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Blaine A. and Ruth A. Hower, growing up in Newport.
At 18, she was crowned PA State Cherry Pie Queen, and her talent for and love of baking pies and cooking was cherished by all who knew her. Pat had a green thumb and was known for the beautiful flower beds in front of her home in Biglerville. Many who passed by stopped to admire and take pictures of her striking display. Indoors, she maintained a huge gardenia that produced many fragrant blooms, filling her home with their sweet fragrance. She was an accomplished seamstress and later excelled at quilting. Patricia also worked many years in many roles at Osborne Printing in Biglerville.
Jay E. VanArsdale, 57 of Hanover, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020 doing what he loved. He was born Monday, December 31, 1962 in Gettysburg.
Jay graduated from Biglerville High School in 1981. He was employed by Excalibur Towing for more than 10 years. He was a member of the Moose of Hanover and the Eagles of Hanover. Jay assisted with the family sprint car team and working on the family farms.
Jay was a very generous and caring man. He would go out of his way to help a stranger. He had a passion for cars. If he couldnât fix it, it couldnât be fixed.
