A man who abused his young cousin by making him perform sex acts over a six-year period has asked the Court of Appeal to quash his conviction.
Lawyers for the 53-year-old Dubliner, who cannot be named to protect his victim’s identity, argued to the three-judge court that their client was tried in front of the same jury on a separate allegation of abusing a young girl.

A Swedish citizen has been jailed for 18 months after pleading guilty to trafficking an illegal immigrant into the State.
Lawyers for Farhan Abdirizak (40) told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court that the Somalian native was trying to help his “nephew” get into Ireland from their war-torn native Somalia.
On November 1st, 2020 gardaí at Dublin Airport identified a young man travelling under false documentation. This male told gardaí that he had travelled with Abdirizak but never said they were related.

Myles Connors (24), of Bearna Park, Sandyford, Co Dublin, was jailed on Monday for carrying out the false imprisonment and assault of Edward Babos in April 2020 as well as a robbery in November 2018.
Connors and another man strip-searched Mr Babos in his friendâs home because âthey thought he had a bag of gearâ on him, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard.
Connors then cut Mr Babosâs hair with the scissors and forced him into his car to bring him to an ATM to âget any money he hadâ.

Brian Reilly (24) ruined the lives of John and Ellen Armstrong after he crashed into their car as they were stopped at a red light in Finglas in January last year, Judge Melanie Greally told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
