New Chiefs co-captain and Hawke s Bay Magpies halfback Brad Weber would have loved to have played in the first round of Super Rugby Aotearoa at the weekend.
The 30-year-old and his Chiefs teammates had to sit out the first round, with their campaign beginning against the Highlanders on Friday in Hamilton.

Loose forward Cane, who was named captain in May, led an All Blacks side that retained the Bledisloe Cup for the 18th straight season before sealing the Tri Nations title earlier this month.
However, it was the Black Ferns Sevens who picked up the Team of the Year award for a third straight time after they claimed the World Rugby Sevens Series as championship leaders when the competition was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Their coaches Allan Bunting and Corey Sweeney were named international coaches of the year, with Super Rugby Aotearoa champion Crusaders mentor Scott Robertson named domestic coach of the year.

All Blacks captain Sam Cane received the top honour at the NZ Rugby awards on Thursday night. Cane, who led the All Blacks to the defence of the Bledisloe Cup and the Tri Nations title in his first year as skipper, claimed the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial award during a made-for-TV special on Sky Sport. At the start of the year no-one dared predict openside flanker Cane, who replaced Kieran Read when he retired from test rugby after the World Cup in Japan, would have to negotiate such a difficult year.

Sam Cane has received double recognition at the New Zealand Rugby awards - while the Black Ferns Sevens domination on the world stage was recognised yet again in 2020.
The Ferns secured a hat-trick of New Zealand team of the year titles to again top the All Blacks, with Cane claiming the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial honour for overall player of the year, and the All Black of the year title.
