are they just not telling us or just not collecting much debris? reporter: well, what we heard today, the debris they found was pretty minimal, a couple of bags and pieces of tin associated with the aircraft and some small objects. you re right, officially at least they re saying very little. it s very difficult to say, carol. so far the information flow has been pretty good. there has been some conflicting statements, obviously you would expect that in a disaster like this. it sort of ties in with the many theories of how the plane entered the water. there s a theory going around a lot of conjecture that it may have been some sort of controlled ditches. if that were the case certainly the pilots would have time to radio in to tell air traffic control what they were doing. all depending on how the plane entered the water and how intact the fuselage on the plane is will depend on the amount of
transiting that area right now. in a way they re going through a crime scene at 10 20 miles an hour. i m wondering what they see. we need more debris from the surface. i m sort of amazed that we haven t heard more about debris fields at this point. well supposedly it s monsoon season. of course, most of us in the united states don t experience that. what would that be like for those searching in the water? i m sure it s horrible. they should see something. i would think that they would see there have been breaks in the weather patterns. if you look at marinetraffic.com, there s a steady stream of traffic, tankers and cargo ships from singapore straight through the java sea to the east. i m wondering why we haven t heard more about bits of debris or debris fields. david gallo and les abend, thank you. cnn is granted rare access to the family of the flight s
let s talk about the evidence found in the water. there was a black suitcase. david soucie says that the black suitcase found came from an area very close to the black boxes. that suitcase was intact. that probably means something good for the black boxes. yes. we can t learn too much from the very limited amount of debris we have right now. i think one of the things we can deduce is it wasn t an extremely high speed impact. there was a case also in indonesia a few years back where the pilot committed suicide by pointing the plane straight down impact at almost the speed of sound. the debris they recovered looked like it had been through a wood chipper, super fragmented. the stuff they found so far doesn t look like that. again, early days very hard to draw firm conclusions at this point. i think what we re looking at is neither a super high speed impact nor a sullen berger style ditching where the entire thing
weather, strong winds and heavy rains are again hampering the search for more victims and wreckage. the arrival of monsoonal rain and its unpredictable eruptions of bad weather holding back divers as well and their investigation of a so-called shadow on the ocean floor. without confirmation that it s the bulk of the airline nah, officials say it could take a week to locate the so-called black boxes thachlt contain the crucial information that will explain what caused this plane to crash. in the meantime search crews have pulled more debris from the water including two black bogs a great suitcase and pieces of stairs. today additional search vessels are expected to arrive in the region including a ship from singapore with enhanced underwater detection. cnn s gary tuchman has more for you from indonesia. reporter: from the air and on the water, this morning weather conditions improving enough to give search teams a small window to continue the arduous task of locating the wreckage in h
