In a major drug haul, Rs 44 crore worth of narcotics, including cocaine and heroin, were seized from a passenger at the international airport in Karipur in Kozhikode.
The seized items include 20 different types of drugs including anti-cancer and blood-improving injections, and their samples have been taken for testing to confirm if they are adulterated, a senior drug department official said. The drug seizure comes months after the Uttar Pradesh government cancelled the licence of Noida-based Marion Biotech, whose cough syrup was believed to have led to the death of several children in Uzbekistan.

Police said that the kingpin of this syndicate is Simran Singh of Ferozpur, who is presently in Melbourne, Australia and operating his network from there. He is in contact with Pakistan based smuggler reportedly identified as Arif Dogar and used the border area for smuggling heroin through drones and plastic bottles left in river water and collected with the help of his accomplice in India.
