Velvet Ice Cream issued a voluntary recall on all its ice cream and sherbet products made after March 24 due to a possible listeria contamination, according to a release from the company.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and those with a weak immune system.
The Ohio-based company says the products were shipped to Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia stores.
The company says there have been no illnesses or injuries reported with the products.
Velvet Ice Cream is working with the FDA.
Anyone who has one of the recalled products should throw it away immediately or return it to where you bought it for a refund.
The recall affects nearly 100 products sold after March 24.
In a news release, the Utica company stressed that no illnesses have been linked to its products.
Listeria is often found in unpasteurized milk, uncooked vegetables and some fruits such as cantaloupe.
The bacteria can cause listeriosis, which is rare but potentially fatal. Young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems are at heightened risk.
The recall marks the third time listeria was discovered at a Velvet facility in the past 4 years.
In May of 2019, the USDA sent a letter to Velvet informing that company that swabs taken from the Utica manufacturing plant tested positive for the bacteria, and the company s sanitation plans were insufficient.
