If you’re a keyboard nerd, the Drop Shift mechanical keyboard is a very exciting prospect.
Drop, formerly known as Massdrop, primarily sells keyboard components and custom keycaps but also makes a few keyboards of its own. Its latest, the Drop Shift, is an inventive riff on the full-size keyboard that condenses the traditional 104-key format into a more manageable 99-key layout while retaining complete functionality. Like the Drop ENTR, which we reviewed last year, the Shift is a keyboard enthusiast’s keyboard. It has few features compared to productivity or gaming keyboards in the same price range, but what it lacks in bells and whistles, it makes up for with pure typing feel. Furnished with Drop’s own Halo True switches, the Drop Shift makes typing feel more deliberate and enjoyable. It’s a special experience for those willing to invest in the simple tactile pleasures of typing.
