The future of a new scheme that would see drug money seized by Gardaí in Co. Louth given to local addiction services remains in doubt.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee has told the Drogheda Joint Policing Committee that new legislation would be needed for such an initiative to be introduced.
The Meath East TD says both the Ministers for Finance and Public Expenditure would have to be consulted before seized drug money, which goes back into the Exchequer, could be ring fenced for treatment services.
