Kia s sharp EV6 confirmed for New Zealand with over 500km of range

Photos / Supplied Once upon a time, Tesla had a monopoly on electric vehicles capable of going fast. As more brands enter the electric sphere, insanely fast cars have almost come to be expected from every brand.  Kia is the latest brand to do so, revealing details around the sharp EV6 just recently, and what s more it has also been confirmed for New Zealand.  The EV6 represents Kia s very first dedicated battery-electric vehicle and is one that looks nothing like anything that s previously come from the Korean brand.  In New Zealand, the EV6 range will start with a standard-range model that s powered by a 58kWh. This is paired with a 125kW electric motor in the rear-wheel drive model, which will get it to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.

Grab an exotic bargain with New Zealand s cheapest Ferrari

If you ve always wanted a Ferrari, but never seem to have the six-figure price tag bumping around in your back pocket, this could finally be the one.  While the humble Mondial isn t powered by a screaming V12, or possesses the power to hit 100km/h in under four seconds, it does come with three pedals and a stick, which is a winning combination in our eyes. Under the rear engine cover of this beautifully blue Mondial sits a 3.0-litre V8 that pumps out a respectable 160kW. This is sent through a dog-leg five-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels.  As the Mondial was built as a GT car with sports car roots, it came with four seats as standard, meaning that it was more practical than other two-seaters around at the time.

Queen of the Ring Sabine Schmitz tragically passes away at 51

The Queen of the Nürburgring had been battling cancer for over three years.  Fittingly, the Nürburgring was one of the first to pay tribute to the late star. “The Nürburgring has lost its most famous female racing driver. Sabine Schmitz passed away far too early after a long illness. We will miss her and her cheerful nature. Rest in peace Sabine!” Sabine gained fame in the early 2000s after joining Top Gear UK, where she broke the ten-minute barrier around Nordschleife in a diesel-powered Jaguar S-Type, before attempting the same feat the next year in a Ford Transit.

Watch: Maserati s MC20 supercar gloriously thrashed through the snow

As far as promotional videos for supercars go, Maserati has hit the nail on the head with this one for the new MC20, which is set to hit showrooms around the world before the end of the year.  To show off its winter performance, Maserati took the yellow MC20 Ghiacciodromo Livigno snow and ice driving circuit in Italy where it performed exactly how any rear-drive supercar should.  In official terms, the goal of this test was to evaluate the cold-weather performance of the MC20 s componentry, and the cold and low-grip asphalt surface handling, but that s just PR talk for skids.

TreeFund: How Honda New Zealand is being very green

But Treefund has also contributed to a number of major programmes in recent years. One of the most significant has been in Kaiapoi, an area hit hard by the Canterbury earthquakes a decade ago. A region now known as the Regeneration Kaiapoi East Area was formerly the site of more than 700 households, but was red-zoned after the earthquakes. The regeneration is a project of the Waimakariri District Council that includes walkways, a pond and even a BMX track designed by Olympian Trent Jones. There are also sports grounds planned. Honda’s involvement brings 15,500 trees to the project, which are being planted over the next few years as the council builds up an ecosystem. It’s significant enough for the brand to have been given naming rights: it’s officially the Honda Forest.
