Heartbreaking Defeat: Lookouts Lose Fourth Straight
Two Bases-Loaded Walks The Difference As Birmingham Wins, 7-6 Friday, July 23, 2021 - by John Hunt
The Chattanooga Lookouts came into Friday night’s game with the Birmingham Barons on a three-game losing streak, dropping those games by not-so-close scores of 3-0, 17-9 and 10-5.
A fourth straight defeat was much closer. For all practical purposes, the Lookouts should have won before 4,615 fans, but unfortunately, close doesn’t count in AA baseball.
The Barons took over first place in the Double-A South’s Northern Division with Friday’s 7-6 win, the winning runs scoring in the eighth inning on a pair of bases-loaded walks. Birmingham is now 38-31 while the Lookouts are now 36-31.

Lorenzo Cedrola was scorching a path down to first base and tried to beat out a throw in the bottom of the fifth. The throw was close, but the Lookout’s star player was called out by the first-base umpire. Cedrola slammed his helmet down in disgust, the protective equipment thrown with such force that it bounced into the sky like a basketball. The umpire ejected Cedrola, and the centerfielder didn t stop walking until he got back to the clubhouse.

Filling in for Olympian Mark Kolozsvary, catcher Jay Schuyler was tearing down the basepaths on a steal attempt. If he could reach second, the Lookouts would have a player in scoring position and perhaps some new life. But as he slid, his cleats must have got stuck in the dirt. His slide came up just a bit short, and the Lookout catcher was tagged out. The entire Lookout offense seemed stuck in the dirt until too late in their Tuesday 3-0 loss to the Birmingham Barons.
Lookouts Announce Opening Day Roster Sunday, May 2, 2021
the Chattanooga Lookouts announced their preliminary Opening Day roster for the 2021 season. The 28-man roster led by Manager Ricky Gutierrez is composed of 15 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders, and four outfielders.
Of the 28 players on the roster, three are listed in the top five of MLB Pipeline’s Top 30 Reds’ Prospect list. Headlining the list is the Reds’ 2019 first-round pick Nick Lodolo (#1). Lodolo is listed as the 51
st overall prospect after being drafted seventh overall out of TCU. Joining the southpaw in the rotation is dynamic right-hander Hunter Greene (#2).
