Sean O’Riordan O’Donovan’s Hotel has been at the centre of life in Clonakilty since the 1850s with a famous guest list matching its colourful history. Now, in the midst of a pandemic, the hotel and the West Cork town have adapted to deal with Covid-19 and lockdown, while also planning a safe and successful future.
Many music venues around the country are hanging on by a thread due to the Pandemic That s according to Ray Blackwell from DeBarra s in Clonakilty who was speaking following the release of a new report by Live Venue Collective.
The collective is made up of 28 small and medium venues in Cork and across the country who staged 405 live shows during lockdown after receiving funding from the Department of Tourism, Culture and the Arts.
The shows involved over 2,100 employees, 655 artists and attracted over 416,000 virtual audience members.
Speaking to RedFM News, Ray Blackwell says today s report shows how successful the initiative was and says further steps need to be taken to protect jobs in the industry:

Bishop McGuinness girls basketball team continued its unbeaten run to start the season with a convincing 58-20 win at home over nonconference foe Lexington on Thursday.
The Villains (4-0, 3-0 Northwest 1A), typically led by their sophomore duo of Charley Chappell and Tate Chappell, showed off their depth as nine different players got in the scorebook. Freshman forward Kiersten Varner led the way off the bench with a game-high 12 points, while Charley Chappell added 11 points and Tate Chappell chipped in nine points.
Also getting in the scorebook for Bishop was senior Alaila Kreuter (seven points), sophomore Katie Deal (six points), junior Katelynn Williams (five points), senior Michelle Petrangeli (four points), sophomore Grace Harriman and junior Francesca Moya (two points apiece).
