And no athlete has had as great of an impact outside of sports as mohammed ali, he passed away last night at a hospital near his home in phoenix. He was 74 years old. In his final days, he suffered from a respiratory ailment, made worse by his parkinsons, which he had fought over 30 years. He was born in louisville, kentucky. In 1964, at 22 years old, he defeated sunny to become the world heavyweight champion, it was in this spotlight that he announced he was changing his name and converting to islam. He refused to serve in the army during the vietnam war, he was found guilty of Draft Division and stripped of his title. The Supreme Court eventually overturned his conviction, and in the 70s and 80s, in his match against joe frazier, George Foreman and leon were international events. Eventually he retired. He was diagnosed with parkinsons. It became hard for hi
