The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Central and all State governments to file a report indicating whether directions contained in 2021 order to control river pollution have been complied with.
The NGT has formed a committee to probe allegations of illegal mining against BJP MP and WFI President, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in three villages of Gonda district, Uttar Pradesh.
The Tribunal took up the matter on its own motion in light of a media report of death of 11 persons, including three minors. The State government had announced compensation of ₹2 lakhs to kind of the deceased.
The Tribunal noted that it had earlier restricted the number of vehicles to 1,000 per day in view of adverse impact on glacier, climate change, the environment and carrying capacity of the area.
