The number of monkeypox cases confirmed globally has risen above 10,000 cases. Though the WHO plans to reconvene the emergency committee meeting to review the current trends, public health experts are raising concerns that the delay in declaring the outbreak a pandemic will have dire consequences.

Deliberations are underway in Geneva as the emergency committee convened on Thursday, June 23, 2022.
