Don't leave aside those with HIV during pandemic, govt urged

The Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC) has urged vaccination for PLHIV to be encouraged and prioritised. As Covid-19 continues to be prioritised, let us not forget the treatment of other diseases. Ongoing investment and efforts in HIV prevention and treatment must continue to save lives from unnecessary deaths, including those related to HIV/AIDS, the council said in a statement on Friday (May 14). It said the advancement of HIV-related medical research year by year has shown that PLHIV can live longer and healthier lives. Antiretroviral treatment gives hope to the community and provides them a second chance to live like other individuals.

Covid-19: AIDS Council urges Govt to ensure those with HIV receive vaccine

PETALING JAYA: The Government should have a plan to prioritise people with health conditions, such as HIV, to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, says the Malaysian AIDS Council. Its president Datuk Dr Christopher Lee urged the Government to put guidelines in place that allow those with underlying conditions such as HIV to receive the jab. “The immunisation programme is to ensure that herd immunity is built in the community to break the chain of Covid-19 infections and eventually, end the Covid-19 pandemic. “It is recommended that all persons with HIV be vaccinated irrespective of CD4 count in line with international guidelines. The vaccines are safe in persons with HIV as they are not live vaccines, ” he said in a press statement on Monday (Feb 22).
