PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The Health Ministry has obtained approval from the Finance Ministry to recruit 8,302 contract healthcare workers to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the contract workers hired as of April included 82 science officers; 4,472 nurses; 2,249 assistant medical officers; 666 medical laboratory technologists; 340 assistant environmental officers; and 293 diagnostic X-Ray technicians.
“The recruitment includes Finance Ministry approval to extend the services of 200 counsellors, who provide counselling services and mental health support to clients at health clinics nationwide, ” he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 4).
He added that the government had also agreed to approve another one-year contract extension for 3,622 medical and dental officers as well as pharmacists, with an emolument cost of RM289.69mil.
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Health Ministry has detected another 30 new cases Covid-19 variants of concern (VOC) in Malaysia - 27 of the South African variant (B.1.351) and three of the United Kingdom (UK) variant (B.117).
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the cases were detected through 59 whole genome sequencing conducted between April 24 and yesterday by the Institute for Medical Research (IMR). This is also the first report of the South African VOC in Perak and Kelantan, involving some significant clusters with 10 cases in each state. In addition, we are still detecting the variant in Selangor with seven cases. For the UK variant, two cases were detected in Selangor and one case in Sandakan, Sabah (first report of VOC in Sabah), involving a non-Malaysian. This is also the first report of the variant among persons without a history of travel to overseas, hence, suggesting local transmission, ” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 2).
