20% of young people have high blood pressure, even scarier is that most of them don t know it. if you are young, you don t think you need to get it checked. our chief medical correspondent, dr. sanjay gupta joins us live from atlanta. what s this all about? why do we have a whole bunch of young people with high blood presh why yo pressure? this is the people that they think they are perfectly healthy. they don t bother getting check-ups, because they have never had a problem. as much as we have talked about childhood obesity, we are starting to see some ramifications in these children. this was the first study of its kind. 14,000 teenagers were fallen. they get between 28 and 42. 20% of them had high blood pressure. between a quarter and a half of them didn t know it. this is the stage of life where they go from adolescents being somewhat active, that active adolescents, to transitioning to adulthood.
