good morning. cnn this mor it is sunday, mth. i m kristin fisher in for amara walker. i m boris sanchez. kristin, i hope that getting that hour of sleep unnecessarily snatched away from your night didn t hurt too bad. of all the mornings to fill in for amara, right? i triple checked my alarm clocks this morning. we both made it and here we are. and here is what we re watching this morning. they started evacuating i think at 12 in the morning or one in the morning and they just started the national guard taking people out as they go. parts of california underwater, homes and businesses flooded with levees pushed to the brink. and we have got another big rainmaker on the way. this was the first time something like this was reported to us. we haven t had any other incidents that i can recall. three texas women believed to be missing in mexico after crossing the border more than two weeks ago. what her family is saying and what investigators are saying about the cas
there is a bigger concern for the town of pajaro. reporter: good morning. this is still the center of the flood response area and we re hearing in downtown pajaro with all of this water because we had the levee 3 1/2 miles away from us. the water breached the very top of that levee and all of this water sent to the lower elevations. of course, so many families and we have seen since the dawn hours on saturday national guard vehicles going up and down the main drag here of pajaro rescuing couples, families, dogs, trying to get as many people out of here as possible. we spoke with one of the representatives leading the rescue efforts here, cal fire. take a listen to when he told us he realized the levee had a breach and how many rescues they have accomplished in the early hours of their operations. we were notified of the levee breach at midnight last night. so we deployed down here 3:00 a.m. this morning. we did have the high water team
with us that is part of the emergency operations center much they have been countywide this week. they have their high-water vehicles and have been successful in nine high water rescue situations this morning. reporter: it s a little bit of a kwee he is ent period. you can see the sun is out but the concern is that we have an 11th atmospheric river of this season coming up tuesday into wednesday. if the levee still is not fixed and there are not going to be any major repairs that will be able to happen in time by tuesday, the concern is that we could have even more water here in the middle of pajaro. boris and kristin, back to you. thank you so much for that. let s go to the cnn weather center and britley ritz. as mike pointed out, there is an 11th atmospheric river taking aim at california now and it gets there, what, tomorrow? monday and tuesday, yes. and 15 million are still under flood watches as a result of exactly that.
wake flooded towns, washed out roads, and thousands left out of their homes and there is more bad weather on the way. first in monterey county, the pajaro river and the levee couldn t keep up. it broke saturday morning sending floodwaters into the small town and forcing 1,700 residents to flee their homes. fire crews have been going door-to-door to try to get people out as the water was rushing in. they started evacuating and started, the national guard taking people out as they go. many people couldn t make it out. the california national guard rescued dozens of people in the early hours of saturday morning, including a person who was stranded in a car that was submerged by flooded waters. and with more rain on the way, cnn s mike valerio explains why
