The Downtown Washroom Attendant Pilot Project, scheduled to begin on Monday, will be launched in two parks Olympic Plaza and Century Gardens. Each park will be staffed with washroom attendants every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Chief Mark Neufeld said the service will be adding the number of teams that patrol various stations during the Calgary Stampede. He said the Downtown Outreach Addictions Program team will also be deployed on transit lines and the number of downtown bike teams will be doubled.

The announcement comes after an officer shot a man at the Sirocco CTrain station after a prolonged standoff on Wednesday. Ten minutes before the initial CTrain call, police responded to a “brazen” daylight shooting in the southwest community of Crestmont. Neufeld said the two weapons complaints do not appear to be connected.
